Project Reveal Part 1 – The Industrial Chic Home – Living Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on July 22, 2021
This space is home to a young couple Arun and Daniela. Arun a real estate developer and Daniela a business professional met in Spain and this was their first home after their marriage and move to India.
When I first met Arun it was a for less than an hour between my meetings during a visit to Hyderabad for other projects. Subsequently after a few interactions with him and Daniela, I knew they wanted a home that was fun and vibrant with some of the industrial loft like feel to bring a bit of edge to the space.
We wanted the home to have an understated industrial vibe, elements that embodied their love for color and pattern along with a hint of the urban rustic feel!
What’s interesting is right after we met and decided to go forward the pandemic struck and we designed this entire home remotely! And this was one of the most challenging yet fulfilling experiences we’ve had!
In some ways this was a first for us, not so much in it being an outstation project but moreso in the way we designed it! While we were working remotely and with a vision of the space we had gathered in one visit, I also feel this project let us explore design in an uncompromised manner! The result is a home where every space flows into each other, is beautifully detailed and is packed with personality!
Lets start with my favorite space in the home, the entryway and the home office!
Entryway & Home Office
We reimagined the original formal living area to create a home office and sectioned it off creating a slim entryway by adding a metal and black glass partition.
The long slim entryway is anchored by a sharp black metal console. Right above the console is a beautiful gallery wall of art prints handpicked to reflect some of Arun and Daniela’s best memories and a vibrant runner below grounds this area.
To the left of the entryway is the section that we partitioned off to create a beautiful home office for the couple. One of my favorite spots, this home office is dressed in a light airy material palette of concrete, natural wood, glass and metal!
The couple’s workspace was designed as an urban clean industrial inspired space but had to have the warmth of a home office! The walls are treated in a concrete finish and the fluted wood ceiling along with the single piece live edge wood desk create a clean harmonious space.
On the opposite wall, a reading nook is anchored by the classic Ikea Billy shelving unit and a Spanish graffiti art print above.
Living Room
As you walk past the entryway you enter the larger living spaces of this home. On the left is the formal living and entertaining space. Concrete walls, soft muted Mediterranean colors and a beautiful shelving unit suspended from the ceiling that houses the client’s memorabilia greet you!
Anchored by a patterned rug and a custom glass and metal coffee table, the living room is meant to feel open and vibrant. A neutral custom sofa and a olive chairs round off the space.
The wall above the chairs has a beautiful handprinted art piece from Artiques, that goes beautifully with the vibe of the space.
Patio
Adjoining the living room is a beautiful balcony that we lined with beams and continued the concrete finishing on the walls. A simple daybed, pouf and an oversized rattan pendant create a visual of calm!
Dining
On the right side the dining area is the perfect contrast with a sharp industrial vibe set by the red brick wall and a live edge dining table coupled with faux leather chairs.
The large eight seater dining table sits under a rustic wood log pendant with hanging bulbs and makes for a beautiful visual against the brick wall!
A bold distressed turquoise cabinet breaks the living area from the dining.
The open kitchen
The brick wall from the dining wraps into the kitchen and hugs the large open counter anchored by vintage barber stools and antique brass pendants.
A beautiful Swedish folk art print sits on the red brick wall and makes for a bold moment.
The kitchen showcases bold blue and white tile reminiscent of Spanish tiles and deep teal cabinetry.
To the left wall of the kitchen is a red brick lined bar unit with open metal and wood shelves that seamlessly blends in with the kitchen but makes for the perfect entertaining area with the adjoining lounge.
Lounge
The lounge is a simple spot with a large teal velvet sectional and a beautiful vintage wood and brass custom media console.
The area is made cozy with a soft ivory beni ourain inspired rug with hints of color. A large bamboo pendant sits atop the corner of the sectional.
A distressed brass frame mirror picked by Daniela sits behind the couch.
The bathroom adjoining the lounge got converted into a spa like bathroom with the addition of a bathtub and a wood ledge. A simple hanging mirror and a bamboo pendant bring in a beautiful organic vibe.
I can’t wait to share with you all the rest of the private spaces in this home. Until then, thanks for popping by and reading all about this home 🙂
